The paradigm for development is shifting drastically in the multi-crisis world. As we emerge from the COVID-19 black swan, the development praxis is also settling into a new normal. Identity, equity, and inclusion have emerged as central values underpinning human development initiatives.  With an emphasis on efficiency, productivity, transparency, and responsibility, data has become increasingly important for decision-making and evidence-based policy. The term “data for impact” is no longer a fad.

The needs of programmers, policymakers, investors, and other key stakeholders have evolved over time, and M&E has adapted to meet those demands. Tracking progress and measuring impacts is becoming increasingly open to new perspectives, methods, and tools. Therefore, it’s essential for everyone involved in a given development project to have a common grasp of the new terminology so that the best possible strategies, procedures, and resources can be used.
