MLE Convergence of MGNREGA and NRLM in Bihar and MP
The convergence of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) was evaluated in two states, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. This evaluation was undertaken primarily to provide inputs to the Transforming Rural India Foundation (TRIF) and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
Additionally, prototype solutions were aimed at the intersection of women’s empowerment and livelihood. The focus was on five districts in MP and two in Bihar, all of which had immersion blocks.
Overall, the intervention was meant to nudge the government towards some overarching goals for women’s economic empowerment. The success of these goals was measured by an increase in women’s household income, control of assets, mobility, decision-making, etc.
Sambodhi was roped in to undertake exhaustive landscaping and analysis of secondary and administrative data, identify gaps in quantitative data and conduct quantitative primary data work. Sambodhi partnered with Imago to generate a holistic picture of the livelihood condition, the status of women, the state of convergence of the initiatives, and other emerging areas of interest from the existing data ecosystem. This was done using datasets from MNREGA, NRLM, National Family Health Survey (NFHS), existing Sambodhi studies, Liveability index, etc. All existing data gaps were filled through primary survey data collection.
